Yes, you can use slow cooker to replace the claypot. Cook for 1.5 to 2 hours.

Mel, the color doesn't influence the flavor. Next time, you can slightly cook the sugar longer or add some dark soy sauce for better color.

Easy to follow recipe!! The taste turned out just nice, however I think i cooked the sugar not long enough, not enough browning and the meat turned out not as dark as in the pic..

I made a superb recipe from your collection using a cooked pig's trotter. It was shorter and simpler than the one you give above.I think you used soy sauce My husband thought it was superb so now I am looking for it again
